PowerSchool – PowerSchool Partner - PowerSchool's ISV

PowerSchool is the leading Student Information System (SIS) in North America with over 40 million users including students, parents, teachers and administrators. Established in 1997, Apple acquired the PowerSchool platform in 2001 and from then to 2006 expanded enrollment from 1 million to 3.5 million students.

Pearson PLC acquired the platform in 2006 to replace its existing SIS, SASIxp, which was the most popular system on the market. Concurrently, Pearson acquired Chancery SMS to meet the needs of larger school districts to complement PowerSchool, which, at the time, primarily serviced smaller school districts. By the end of 2007, the combined enrollment across the two platforms had grown to 6.5 million. PowerSchool continued to be developed for customers in districts of all sizes.

In the following years, through a series of acquisitions of SIS companies, and the growth of a dedicated team of PowerSchool developers, sales and support staff, PowerSchool's capabilities and enrollment grew significantly. In June 2015, Vista Equity Partners announced that it would purchase the PowerSchool group from Pearson. The sale was completed in August of 2015, making PowerSchool the largest U.S. owned SIS in K-12 education. Currently, PowerSchool has a dedicated team of more than 400 professionals, supporting more than 13 million students.
